SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5-27-2022

In this week’s report, I would like to Thank Michelle Preston, The Whiteface
Regional Visitors Bureau and our awesome town staff for working on the Home
Town Hero Banner project. Like many communities, Wilmington is so honored to
be part of this special recognition.
In the days ahead, please look for a very special photo presentation of our
Wilmington Home Town Hero’s on the Town Website at townofwilmington.org
and our Facebook Page. This will be a great way to view all the banners from your
home computer.

Please note the most recent update we just received from New York State DOT concerning the work in the Wilmington Notch. As always, we will keep you posted. NYSDOT’s contractor has started back up work on the drainage repairs along Route 86 in the Town of Wilmington, along the Notch.  Traffic will maintained with a single lane/alternating traffic work zone, using flaggers to control traffic during work operations for this stage of repairs.  Two lanes of traffic will remain open when this work is not on going. This project will require a nighttime closure of the road between County Route 21 (River Road) and the High Falls Gorge Café/Gift Shop.  This overnight closure is scheduled for Wed. June 1 st  (8pm) until Thurs.
June 2 nd  (6am).  During this closure, traffic will be directed to a signed detour using Routes 73 to Keene, 9N to Jay and 86 to Wilmington.

This week’s History Trivia, I grabbed a posting from the Wilmington Historical Society Facebook Page. The building where Adirondack Chocolates is now located on Rt 86 and 431 once served as a home for a business called “The Carousel Restaurant” The circular nature of the structure was designed by artist Arto Monaco. The building later became the very popular “Gateway Restaurant” My generation definitely has some very fond memories of the Gateway. Just a reminder, if you like Wilmington History, check out the Historical Society’s Facebook page.

We are putting the final touches on the Summer Concert Series at the Wilmington
Town Beach. I am excited to announce the first concert will take place on
Thursday June 30 th starting a 6 pm. Our first performers will be Tally & Pop
followed by the Grey Wolf. Special shout out and thanks to the Essex County Arts
Council for their funding support.

That’s all for this week my friends. See you around town. -Roy
