Town Supervisor’s Report on 4/19/26

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Wilmington News & Notes.

Here are some of the things going on in Wilmington.

1.

There will be a special town board meeting on Tuesday, at 6 p.m. The meeting’s agenda is at the end of this newsletter.

2.

We are working hard to get the town’s summer youth programs back up and running this year.

In related news, we are looking to hire some seasonal employees, including laborers, lifeguards, and several employees for the Summer Youth Program: a director, counselors, and a “Health Director” and/or on-call nurse.

3.

In addition to laborers, lifeguards, and youth program employees, we are looking for an assessor and a member of the Board of Assessment Review.

Serving on the Board of Assessment Review requires the officeholder to:

A) Attend one afternoon of training in Elizabethtown (May 7, noon to 4:30), and

B) Hear people’s grievances on Grievance Day (May 26, 10 a.m. to noon; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)

Serving on the B.A.R. would be a good job for the right person: It pays $400 for two days of work.

At this point our assessors’ office has been short-staffed for *years*, so the town board is in the process of raising the lead assessor’s annual salary to $13,000 and the other assessors’ annual salaries to $8000.

We are doing this to:

A) More appropriately compensate our current assessors for their workload, and

B) Increase the positions’ appeal.

For more information about serving as a town assessor or on the B.A.R., please email me at townsupervisor@townofwilmington.org

To discuss your assessment, please visit the town hall at one of the following times:

May 7, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

May 12, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

May 19, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

May 23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

4.

Several different “town issues” and “town meetings” have been covered by the ADE / LP News, JCN, Adirondack Explorer, and/or Sun Community News recently — and I think I speak for the whole town board when I say we truly appreciate it.

Thank you to the reporters who made the trip to Wilmington and shed some light on town issues.

Here is a recent Sun Community News article about the town’s summer concert series:

5.

The town is in the process of creating two new committees: The Committee to Dredge the River, and The Committee to Close the Loop.

The objective of The Committee to Dredge the River is self-explanatory.

The Committee to Close the Loop will work to connect the sidewalks on Route 86 with the bike lanes on Fox Farm and Springfield Road.

Please contact me for more information about either committee.

Thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter.

Hope to see you on Tuesday, if you are interested and able to attend.

All the best,

Tim Follos
