Hello Friends! Our 16th Annual Wilmington Christmas Celebration is now in the books. What an amazing time that was held by both the young and the young at heart.
The fireworks were indeed spectacular and the gift parade with Santa was so much fun! Thank you to all that contributed to the yearly community event. Special thanks to all of the town employees that always rise to the occasion of going above and beyond. We even put Supervisor Elect Smith to work assisting Santa with gift delivery.
In other news, I held my final Town Board meeting as Town Supervisor this past week. At the monthly meeting, we took the time to present both Marcel Bruce and Michelle Preston with plaques of appreciation for their dedication to their respective positions. Marcel wraps up his time as Assessor and Michelle concludes her time on the Town Council at the end of the month. Thank You for your service.
Deadline for Wilmington Youth to sign up for the Ski Program is December 20th. This program is open to all Wilmington Youth between the ages of 8 to 18. This program operates on select non-holiday Sundays starting in January 2024. If interested, please email wilmingtonyouthcenter@gmail.com
The Youth Commission and Town is still seeking applications for a youth monitor for the 2024 ski program to be at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Lodge during the ski program operating hours. The pay for this position is between $18. To $20. an hour. For more information, please contact the town offices.
I want to briefly address the NYSEG outage that occurred on December 13th. Please note that I relay information to the public as soon as I get it from NYSEG for the time period the power will be out. Information we hand out is what NYSEG provides us with. I have a good relationship with our NYSEG community representative and did communicate with him on the most recent outage on several occasions. As Supervisor, if the power is out for more than 8 hours, especially during the winter months, we start an action plan for any elderly or folks confined to their homes.
Please note that starting in January 2024 that the Wilmington Justice Court Hours will be on Thursdays at 5 pm.
The Town of Wilmington has officially been designated a Clean Energy Community by NYSERDA. Over several years, our town government has taken many steps to lower our energy usage from street lights, more efficient equipment at our Highway department to new LED lighting at the town offices. This designation opens the doors for an automatic $5,000 grant that can be used to further our efforts. Special thanks to Nancy Bernstein from ANCA for assisting our community with this project.
Well Friends, That’s all for this week. Only 2 more reports left.
See you around town. -Roy Holzer
