SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-26-24 WORK SESSION—WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2024 at 4:00 PM The board will hold its regular work session meeting at the Community Center this Wednesday at 4:00 pm. Guests from Adirondack Roots will be there to update the board and public on the Homestead Housing project going on at the former Coarding property on Route 86. At the board's last meeting there were questions about the project, rentals versus option to purchase, etc. This will give everyone a chance to learn more and ask questions. The board will also discuss the future of the assessors’ office. After [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-19-24 What a relief-- nice weather has moved into town! I needed a fleece at the summer concert at the beach last evening. BEACH AND EVENTS The beach has been busy, the lifeguards are doing great, and boats are getting rented. The Thursday night summer concerts started last night with cooler, dryer and beautiful weather. Last weekend I learned that the beach is not a good location for larger events--and Sunday’s event was too much. I have already let the organizer know that while it may have been a good idea when it started years ago, [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-12-24 It is a short report this week. BERYL Thanks very much to the Highway Department for keeping an eye on the roads and bridges in the town. Juniper Hill had some washouts that the department worked on immediately. The Water Department had anticipated the rainfall and topped up the reservoirs so the town could avoid the issue of storm water. The Parks Department wrestled with docks and floats at the beach to secure those from floating down to the dam. While it was quite a bit of rain, Wilmington did alright, apart from yesterday’s cancellations, [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 6-28-24 What a day! THE BEACH OPENS TOMORROW We are very lucky to have a great beach and equally lucky to have had enough lifeguard applicants this year to expand the number of days open. In fact, Wilmington plans on having its beach open 7 days a week, until September 2nd. The lifeguards met today for an orientation (though some had already worked at our beach before) and the beach will be ready for tomorrow. The general schedule is 10 AM to 5 pm. As the summer heats up, the hours may flex to allow the [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 6/21/2024 Hope all went well during the short but intense burst of heat. WHISKEY RUN AND FESTIVAL—FOLLOW UP The Wilmington Historical Society had a perfect day to host a 10k/5k race and the festival that followed. Seemed to be very well attended. Several vendors were disappointed by the spotty Verizon service that made processing sales difficult. While we are often at the mercy of the utility providers, the town will investigate a wireless bridge Wi-Fi connection for the field. Keene uses one at Marcy Field. It sometimes happens that even backup systems won’t work when asked, [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 6/7/2024 Happy Friday! Snapping Turtles were out laying eggs and seen at a few locations around town. The picture below was taken by board member Laura Hooker at the beach. Each year the turtles will dig in the sand to lay their eggs. I saw a turtle on Hardy Road digging in the sand near the edge of the pavement. That doesn’t seem to be a good spot. The turtles are kind of ugly and look like the dinosaurs from those books I loved as a kid. My kids liked the turtle Pokemon types (I could [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5/31/2024 Greetings: The benefit for the Wilmington Library “Feed Your Need to Read” was held on Wednesday at the Hungry Trout. We had a terrific time—the food and service were astounding, the company terrific, but after such tasty fare I didn’t have the energy to read much. The weather has been fabulous as well—dry air, sunshine, and cool overnights. This weekend promises more of the same and just in time for the second chapter of the event season. The Annual Uphill Races are tomorrow starting at 5:30 pm. The Whiteface Visitor’s Bureau posted a traffic alert [...]
