SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/3/2023

Happy March everyone! I have personally always liked the month of March. The
longer days of natural light are like a renewal of my inner soul. Though I like
winter, the short days of sunlight start to take its toll on me by the end of
February. Even when we get those typical March storms, one knows that the
snow is only temporary and we can start planning for the next season of activities
and projects.
One thing you can plan for in the immediate future is a Girl Scout Cookie Sale at
the Whiteface Regional Visitors Bureau office this Saturday March 4 th from 10 am
to 2 pm. Stop by and support your local Girl Scout group.
This past week I attended the New York Association of Counties Conference in
Albany. The event was very well attended. One of the main topics discussed was
opposing a plan by Governor Hochul to intercept $625 Million in Federal Medicaid
Funding that has been shared with counties for over 2 decades. For our county, if
we lose this funding, it means an $800,000 increase to the taxpayers of Essex
County. For our friends in Clinton County it is over 2 million dollars that would be
passed on to their county taxpayers. The Medicaid program is mandated by the
State of New York to the county governments. This mandate does not give
counties any real say in the program. For more information, please check out a
website that has been established on this important issue at
www.costshiftcountdown.com
Other programs I attended at the NYSAC conference were, Agriculture & Rural
Affairs, Economic Development, Environment & Energy, Improving Health
through Housing and a host of other events where both the Attorney General and
State Comptroller spoke to affairs of New York State. I also had a chance to meet
up with our State Senator Dan Stec and Assemblyman Billy Jones. It was a very
packed couple of days.
The Essex County Soil & Water Conservation District is conducting their 2023 Tree
Sale. Deadline to order trees is March 10 th . More information may be found at
www.essexcountyswcd.org
Although out of the norm for my Supervisors report, Casting Calls are planned for
the Showtime Series BILLIONS in Paul Smiths New York from March 13 – 18 th . Look
to our bulletin board at the Post office or email billions@gwcnyc.com for more
information. Please write “ADK LOCAL” in subject line if you email them.
Our Short Term Registration is at 78 properties registered and $35,200 collected
to date.
Just a reminder on upcoming meetings. The Wilmington Planning and Zoning
Board will be meeting Tuesday March 7 th and the Monthly Town Board Meeting
will be Tuesday March 14 th . Both meetings start at 7pm and are held at the
Community Center.
Well friends, that’s all for this week. Thanks for reading.
See you around town. – Roy Holzer
