Town of Wilmington, New York

Wilmington is a small town with beautiful scenery and big-hearted people. You’ll find locals fishing off the bridge, biking on the Poor Man’s Downhill, and paddling on the river. Although we have a ski mountain and a theme park, residents and visitors love Wilmington for the serenity it provides.

Wilmington is home to both the West Branch of the AuSable River and Whiteface, “The Olympic Mountain.”

We welcomed the world in 1980, when Whiteface hosted the downhill skiing events of the Olympic Games.

That wasn’t Wilmington’s first time in the limelight: President Franklin Delano Roosevelt traveled here to mark the grand opening of the Veterans’ Memorial Highway — a public works project that allows automobile travel to the summit of the fifth-highest mountain in the state.

Today, the Memorial Highway starts near the center of town.

More than 60% of the land in Wilmington is part of the state forest preserve, making the town a haven for those who enjoy the great outdoors.

For generations, Wilmington has been the home of woodsmen, artists, fishermen, and skiers.

In more recent years, we’ve also become known as one of the Adirondacks’ foremost mountain biking destinations.

Wilmington is an ultra-special gem, and we’re proud of it.
