SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5/10/2024
Greetings—
TOWN CLEAN UP DAY—TOMORROW, 9-12
For those planning to help tomorrow, please gather at the beach a little
before 9. The weather report shows chilly (54F as a high—chilly
enough), but minimal chance of rain.
A day or so ago, I posted on Facebook a poster that showed the basic
information. We will have some but maybe not enough visibility vests,
so please wear bright clothes. Bring gloves. We expect to have some,
but again maybe not enough.
Thanks to Paula L and Karl V-E for organizing! And thanks to the
Whiteface Visitors Bureau and the Adirondack Sports Council for
helping to promote the clean-up.
SHAWN COARDING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
I was asked to let everyone know that the applications for the Shawn
Coarding Memorial Scholarship are still being accepted. Each year the
scholarship gives out awards to Wilmington students for college,
technical school, or military service. Applications and more information
can be found at the Wilmington Firehouse and will be accepted until
the end of May.
BTI UPDATE
Received a couple of questions about BTI because the black flies are
out. Wilmington did contract to have streams treated this year and
according to the update—all streams that had the winter larvae were
treated this year. When streams reached 50 degrees, those were
treated for the second species that were hatching. Many of the
streams were tagged with new flagging but, they added, some property
owners remove the flagging. I suppose that is often the question,
because it is hard for hikers to know whether a stream was treated.
REST ROOMS AT THE BEACH
They are open.
TOWN BOARD MEETING
The regular meeting of the town board will be held May 14, 2024, at
7:00 pm at the Community Center. It will be a busy agenda that will
include the revised local law for the short-term rentals (the board will
discuss the draft and, if agreeable, set a date for a public hearing); an
appointment to the board of assessment review ahead of Grievance
Day; a report on the assessments generally; changing a road name, and
more.
BRIEFLY,
We had a hummingbird at our house yesterday. Need to add more
color near the feeder to make it more attractive.
