SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5-26-2023

As I wrote this week’s report I thought about the amount of work our town team does in anticipation of Memorial Day. As part of the seasonal tasks, placing our Home Town Hero Banners throughout Wilmington has become the Hallmark of Memorial Day weekend in Wilmington. This year alone, a total of 54 Home Town Hero Banners adorn the streets of our community. I would like to thank our Parks Crew for getting this job done and Michelle Preston for organizing the banner project

As many are aware, Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country. We use the Memorial Day date as a timeline to place all our hometown banners up for the summer. Memorial Day is a very solemn day of observance. As a youth, my grandmother, Joyce Hardy Ormsby would always remind me of the reasons behind the day. It had a very real and personal meaning for her as her youngest brother Philip Hardy was killed at the age of 23 in the Solomon Islands during World War II. Sadly, her story is all too real for many families across our town, state and nation

The week of May 21st through the 27th has been designated National EMS Week. Thank You to all our EMS personnel for their service and dedication. We owe you all much gratitude.

Congratulations to all our area college graduates! Our workforce is ready for you. Best of luck to whatever the path you choose.

Please note that the Wilmington Landfill Hours are Tuesdays & Thursdays 11 to 5 and Saturdays 8 to 4. The landfill will be open regular hours this Saturday.
