SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-4-2023

I was very saddened to hear about New York States Department of Health approval for the closure of both the Lake Placid Emergency Room and Dental Clinic. Since last October when the plans were announced to close the Emergency Room, I have opposed the measure. I was hoping that New York State would have assisted with this issue considering the millions they have already invested in our region. Certainly I could go on and on. However, I will not. Here is to moving forward

Just a reminder that there will be an “OPEN HOUSE” next Thursday, August 10th at the High Peaks Health Center from 8 am to 10 am. This is your opportunity to meet the health care providers and learn about the services offered. With the Health Center open full time and located directly behind the town offices, this is also a chance to simply say “THANKYOU” to them for being in our community. On August 12th the Wilmington Town Wide Yard Sale will take place. Please contact the Visitors Bureau at 518 946-2255 by August 4th to be added to the map. A small $5.00 fee includes your location on a map with a listing of any special items one may have. A house sign and Maps are also included

Volunteers are still needed for the Wilmington Get Together that will be held on Saturday August 19th at the Town Beach. Please contact Sadie Hozley at (518) 586- 1775 to see what volunteer opportunities are available for you. In association with the GetTogether event, a parade is planned the same day. Parade will start at 1 pm and will start from the town park, entering out on to Route 86 by the Little Super Market. The parade will then proceed down Route 86 and end at the former Steinhoff’s Property. For more information, please contact Tina Terry Preston at (518) 637-7900

As I mentioned in past Supervisor reports, we maintain an active list of all Civil Service positions available in Essex County. The job notices are updated regularly and are located at the reception area of the town offices. Feel free to stop by and review

I want to extend a “shoutout” to the organizers of the Wilmington Mountain Music Fest. In spite of the day starting out with rain, the event last week was well organized and a lot of fun. This year’s committee consisted of Michelle Preston, Cliff Holzer, Darin Forbes, Mike Bowman and Emily Brown. With additional contribution by Travis Holzer, Allison Livesey. Of course, a special thank you to our Wilmington Parks Department that continues to step up with events like this. The members of the Wilmington Short Term Rental Committee would like to invite town residents to their next meeting on August 9th at 6:30 pm to be held at the Community Center

Finally, a general reminder that the next monthly Town Board meeting will be Tuesday August 8th at 7 pm

That’s all for this week my friends. See you around town. – Roy Holzer
