Here is some of the news from Wilmington:
1.
The town is hosting an Easter event for Wilmington kids on Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m. We’ll have a variety of treats and maybe even a special guest for the kids. The flier for the event is attached to this email. Thanks to the event’s sponsors — Unicorn Square and Adirondack Chocolates — and to the town employees and volunteers whose “behind the scenes” efforts make events like this possible.
2.
For many years town officials have known that the sediment accumulation in the Lake Everest section of the AuSable River is a problem. Around 15 years ago town leaders made a serious run at dredging the river. From what I can tell, this effort ultimately ran out of steam due to the daunting expense of the undertaking.
The problem has only gotten worse since then.
(Back in the old days, town employees would dredge the river annually.
It was a different time.)
I was very impressed by the work of the town’s STR committee. And the new Homestead Housing Board and the incipient Comprehensive Plan Committee are also functioning well.
At the town board meeting last week, the board authorized me to advertise for members of a new “Sediment Accumulation Committee” that will help the town solve this problem.
Please let me know if you would like to get involved.

Here are some positions the town board would like to fill, listed roughly in order of urgency:
— Board of Assessment Review (a few days of work, respectable pay)
— Seasonal / part-time Parks Department employee(s)
— Town Assessor
— Summer Youth Program Counselors
— Lifeguards
— Beach employee(s)
— Grant writer / office employee

Behind-the-scenes efforts are underway to schedule the Thursday night concert series at the town beach. We plan to start the concerts in June this year.
One of my goals is to revitalize the concerts by booking a few regionally popular acts and by broadening the variety of the bands. I’m not looking to make dramatic changes — just looking to bring some new energy and excitement to this summer staple.
To do those things, we will have to spend more money.
In years past, much of the cost of the concerts was covered by donations from community members. The town’s gotten away from asking for donations for the concerts in the past few years — but I’m bringing that tradition back.
To donate, checks can be made out to The Town of Wilmington, with “Beach Concerts” in the memo line. Please mail any donations to the Town of Wilmington, Care of Town Clerk Dawn Stevens, P.O. Box 180, Wilmington, N.Y.
5.
Essex County is now recycling batteries. Right now the town only has one receptacle for used batteries — it’s located in the lobby of the town hall.
6.
There is a Planning Board meeting on Tuesday. The meeting’s agenda is below.
The next regular monthly town board meeting is scheduled for April 14. That meeting will start with a continuation of the Public Hearing on Local Law 2 of 2026. Prior to April 14, comments can be emailed to the Town Clerk or dropped off at the town hall.
Thanks for taking the time to read this edition of WN&N.
Sincerely,
