SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-1-2023 September and the feeling of fall is in the air. I love the change of seasons and everything about it. As a town government we prepare to close the swim area of our town beach. In fact, the last day of beach operations will be Sunday September 3 rd . In spite of all the rain, it has been a good season in running the community beach. We had staff. They even showed up for work! I cannot thank our staff at the beach enough for a successful summer. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8/25/2023 Last weekend I had the honor of attending the Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squads 2023 Banquet. Being a former Volunteer for over 25 years in that organization, I know how dedicated the members of the department are. The yearly banquet is a way for the group to recognize members for their service. The Banquet started off with Fire Chief Louie Adragna thanking the Au Sable Fire Department and Ambulance Squad for coverage during the awards dinner. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-18-2023  Greetings! Big week in the area this weekend. For starters, on Saturday, we have the Wilmington Get Together Parade starting at 1 pm. The parade will line up at the drag strip in the park and head down route 86 towards the former Steinhoff's property. We are very fortunate to have the Essex County Sheriff's Department leading the parade as we kick up our yearly community event. I start off this week's update with a reminder that this Saturday is Wilmington's Town Wide Yard Sale. In the past, this day has been a true treasure hunt for all seeking a bargain. I have fond memories of my mom absolutely loving a good yard sale and the prizes she would bring home. Being so poor, it was absolutely imperative she found the best deal. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-4-2023  I was very saddened to hear about New York States Department of Health approval for the closure of both the Lake Placid Emergency Room and Dental Clinic. Since last October when the plans were announced to close the Emergency Room, I have opposed the measure. I was hoping that New York State would have assisted with this issue considering the millions they have already invested in our region. Certainly I could go on and on. However, I will not. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7/28/2023  Greetings from the "Nerve" center of the Wilmington Town Government also known as the town offices. ((ha-ha))  I start this report with news that soil testing was performed on the future site of the Wilmington Homestead Housing property this past week. Atlantic Testing Laboratories conducted subsurface investigations of the soil by using a portable drill that went several feet in the ground. In the drill were these plastic sleeves that collected soil and will later be analyzed for contamination like oil or PCBs. The testing is a requirement of the Northern Boarders grant to purchase [...]
